Firm Overview

Firm History

Freeman Investment Management Co., LLC is an investment adviser registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. The firm was originally known as Investment Research Company ("IRC"). IRC was founded in 1985, incorporated in 1987 and from March, 1994 through December, 2000 was a wholly owned subsidiary of United Asset Management. In January, 2001 IRC, through a management buyout, became Freeman Associates Investment Management Co., LLC, an independently owned and operated firm.

In February, 2009, Freeman merged with Investment Science Corp (ISC), also based in San Diego, California.  As a result, a new entity was created which combined the assets and resources of both firms:  Freeman Investment Management Co., LLC.  This combination integrates Freeman's successful history of innovative research and risk management along with ISC's advanced analytics research, and experience in sales, marketing and operations management.  The vision for the new firm is to create a partnership which offers distinctive, research-driven investment strategies that deliver sustained value for clients.

Concurrent with the ISC transaction, Freeman distributed equity to all key professionals with over 80% owned by active employees. Corporate governance will be directed by a board comprised equally of active employees and outside members, chaired by John Freeman.
